Imagine operating a business, any business, large or small without even a copy machine. In these days of faxes, voice mail, cell phones, iPods, emails, PowerPoint presentations, video teleconferences and personal computers that can be carried in your pocket, such a situation is inconceivable. However, that was the situation in which we found ourselves in the late 60’s, when the current firm began. The history and origins of Moore & Cubbedge pre-dates all of these modern business enhancements.
The origin of the firm actually dates back to the late 1930’s when an accountant and attorney, Harold S. Willingham, left employment with the state of Georgia and started an accounting firm in Marietta, Georgia. Subsequently, World War II interrupted his practice for several years. After the war he continued to practice law and accounting alone until, in 1963, he added Arthur G. (Buddy) Weiss as an associate. In 1968, a fraternity brother of Buddy Weiss from the University of Alabama, Frank Moore, joined Willingham and Weiss. Technology was still many years away, and both recordkeeping and reports were manually produced work products.
